Biography
Professor Jay Lopez is a distinguished martial artist with a wealth of experience in both the realms of martial arts and public service. As a Black Belt under the esteemed Grandmaster Relson Gracie, Professor Lopez has dedicated over 20 years to mastering various martial arts disciplines. Currently serving in the Federal Government, he brings a unique blend of expertise to his role as a Defensive Measures instructor, specializing in firearms, active threat response, physical fitness, and tactical medicine.
Beyond his martial arts and professional endeavors, Professor Lopez is a military combat veteran, having completed tours in Southwest Asia. His dedication to serving his country with honor and valor is a testament to his character and commitment to excellence. Following his honorable discharge from the military, Professor Lopez pursued his passion for education, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Education from New Mexico State University.
With his background in martial arts, military service, and education, Professor Lopez brings a multifaceted approach to his teaching. Whether instructing Middle School level students in New Mexico or sharing his expertise in self-defense and tactical training, he is deeply invested in empowering others to reach their full potential. As a respected leader and mentor, Professor Lopez continues to positively impact the lives of those he teaches, instilling values of discipline, resilience, and courage both on and off the mats.
